Assignment 18: A Poem of Detail Inspired by England Travels
The Cliffs of Dover
Greenery, dirt path, and staggering cliffs
Jaunting, singing, absorbing the beauty
Sweet grasses and flowers mix with sea air
Like an old friend, the path greets me
Refreshing liquid quenches my thirst
New friends, grand views, and large ships
Natural beauty envelops us
The beauty of smiles touching hearts
The wind whipping brown strands
Natural, open, lovely
Greenery, dirt path, and staggering cliffs
Jaunting, singing, absorbing the beauty
Sweet grasses and flowers mix with sea air
Like an old friend, the path greets me
Refreshing liquid quenches my thirst
New friends, grand views, and large ships
Natural beauty envelops us

Natural, open, lovely

Assignment 13 and 14: Postcard Home and Impressions of England
Reflection on Guildford
Among the birds, bees, flowers, and the bikers, hikers, and picnickers, surrounded by English countryside, are the nature and peace loving residents and travelers of Guildford.
The Pub
Is like
Tasting freshly fried fish and chips
Seeing familiar faces amidst the dark paneling and lanterns
Hearing glasses clinking and cheers to adventures
Feeling tired but refreshed by our drinks of choice
Smelling the aromas of pub foods

The Warmth Lingers
Yellow, blue, and beige
Soft colors, sunshine, gentle breeze, warmth
Brief spring showers, pitter-pattering on the opaque roof
Hearing the pages of my novel turn
Iced tea is my companion
As are the smells of hyacinth and herbs wafting in from the yard
The ice melts, but the sweetness remains on my tongue
I hear the birds chirping and see the neighbor’s cat
Creeping across the freshly dampened lawn
Fleeting warmth and coolness
I notice the chandelier dancing with the breeze
Pulling on my soft sweater for protection
Feeling the beat of my heart quicken
With the anticipation of togetherness
I hear the rattle of the screen door
Young, in love, naive, and yet fully aware
Inviting rough but cool blue invites
Sinking into the comfort
Relaxing after a long day of hard work
Happy to be together in the beauty and comfort of this room
Discussing today
Along with plans for our future
The yellows, blues, and beiges
Dappled sunlight envelops us in warmth and beauty
The light begins to fade
but the warmth lingers
As does the beauty of this time and this place

Lover of adventure, friendship, and family
Who feels adventurous and excited, but with many insecurities
Who needs good friends, laughter, and exercise
Who gives many smiles, baked goods, and a helping hand
Who fears being late, criticism, and her own perfectionism
Who would like to see the Himalayas, the Australian Outback, and Istanbul
Resident of Cary, Woodcreek Dr.
Sturdy
Historical Bio-Poem, Jane Austen
Jane
Woman, author, novelist, single
Lover of good books, sisters, family, and home
Who believed that propriety was of the utmost importance,
that family comes first, and that education is essential
Who wanted pen and paper, a well established library, and the comforts of home
Who used her sharp wit to sting, other people’s home as her own,
and comedic timing to bring laughter
Who gave the world novels, a female author, and an appreciation for humor in writing
Who said “There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.”
